Welcome
15 April 2021Hello. A while ago I got into woodworking, something that’s been on my to-do list for years. This is a place to show my stuff. I hope you like it.
Gorgeous Black Heart Sassafras
I was originally going to make some furniture out of this slab. I laid it on the cabinet saw and just couldn’t do it. It’s far better off hanging on my wall where I can admire it’s stunning beauty forever.
Huon Pine Bangles
Who’d have thought you could turn wood into jewellery?, turns out you can and it’s pretty nice. These are Huon Pine bangles made for a small business that then sets stones in them. Pretty cool. They are turned from solid…
Myrtle Picture Frame
This is a photo of some friends that I framed and gave to them. It’s Tasmanian Myrtle with bevelled edges and inset with plex-glass. It’s finished with a wipe on polyurethane to give a silky finish.
Myrtle Serving Tray
This is a serving tray made from Tasmanian Myrtle. It has a lot of angles which make it interesting to look at and it is functional too.
Two Generations Ago
These two pieces were made by my Grandfather, Don Dann, at Rosebery in Tasmania in the mid to late 1950s. He had a lathe in his shed and apparently had a knack for wood turning. According to my Mum, he…
Tasmanian Myrtle Fountain Pen
I love the rich redness of the Tasmanian Myrtle in this Fountain Pen. The metal parts are rhodium with 22ct gold highlights. I need to make a case to keep this one in now 🙂
Black Butt Side-table
I was asked to make a side-table to go with some newly renovated wicker patio chairs. The brief was it had to be big enough for two cups of coffee and two plates of cake, and a comfortable height to…
Sassafras Coffee Coasters
These coffee coasters are turned on the lathe and are inlayed with a ceramic coloured polymer clay insert to add interest. They are finished with wax to protect them.
Huon Pine makes a great bowl
This is a nice large 10″ (25cm) Bowl made from Huon Pine. The grain is really nice in this piece and a knot appeared in the centre of the blank while it was being turned which adds character I reckon.…
A Candle Holder made from scrap
Never throw away scrap pieces of timer. With some imagination and creative table saw skills you can create a table centre-piece like this.
Cedar & Sassafras Cash Box
This is a cash box I made for someone who operates at community markets. It’s designed to keep coins, notes and the EFT machine safe and sound. It’s made from Red Cedar with Huon Pine inlays in the mitre joints.…
